Most of the damage was in the coastal areas and barrier islands with storm surge the higher windspeeds. And people building where they never should be building in the first place. Plus a lot traditional building wisdom and common sense has been lost. like stilt homes in flood prone coastal areas, not developing swamplands or low lands prone to sheet flows. The vegetation tells you what it is.
Well, as a whole we made out pretty damn good. We lost a lot of vegetation like we always do, a good bit of buildiñg damage nothing that can't be fixed. But so far I haven't heard of a lot of casualties.
If this sort of thing happened somewhere else, there
would be hundreds dead and injured all over the news.
